How to transfer my iPhone 3G contacts to my new iPhone 5 (when I buy it) :)

Hi, my iPhone 3G is in shackles (unable to connect to wifi anymore, cracked screen - yet still working) and I am planning of buying the new iPhone once it comes out.

What would be the best way to transfer my old iphone contacts to my new iphone. I do not have iTunes installed on my new PC and I would not like to sync my old iphone with it as i have some precious music on there. is there a way to enable the icloud on a 3G?

I guess the only good way is to connect to iTunes and sync. In sync settings, uncheck everything but Contacts. Sync contacts with Windows Contacts. When you get your new iPhone, connect it to iTunes and check its Contacts sync with Windows Contacts again. That should not affect your music (I guess) and backup your contacts too.

iCloud is a no go on 3G (unfortunately).

iCloud only works with iOS 5 and above. Your old iPhone only supports up to 4.1.1. As a result you cannot have the iCloud contact sync unfortunately. This could complicate matters but not entirely.

Try using some 3rd party tools to transfer your old iphone contacts to your computer. copytrans contacts is one such tool but there exist more. Once you have your iPhone contacts on your computer you can import them to our new iphone using the same tool.

Depending on the store. Most stores have a contact transfer system. If not, then couldnt you do iTunes backup?

If you have the old phone, plug that in first and make a backup, that way you will have all the latest info.

Then plug in your new iPhone and when asked if you want to set ot up as a new phone or restore from a backup, make sure you select restore from back, then you can pick the backup you want to use, select the latest and away it goes.

It's a really handy way about how to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone.

Sorry bro, iCloud does not support iPhone 3GS. Using third party apps to transfer iPhone contacts to PC as .csv and then to your new iPhone is the only option you have left. Check this tutorial for more help:
