The 2011 MBA is not obsolete yet. It probably won't reach the unsupported state for 5 years or so. The MacBook I bought in 2008 still runs Mountain Lion perfectly..

This is ridiculous, you have posted this before. YES you can download Mountain Lion on your MacBook Air, it is still supported. It will receive OS updates for a couple years. If you want to make a ridiculous excuse to buy a new computer, go ahead, but Apple will continue to support your Mac for years to come.
